Foreign rightsholders receive all or part of the remuneration for the following categories, as defined in statistical surveys:
- Foreign material (both the authors' and the publishers' share)
- Translated material (half the authors' share)
- Norwegian publication by foreign author (the authors' share)
- Norwegian author published abroad (the publishers' share).
Agreements with foreign rightsholders' organisations are designed partly for the purpose of exchanging rights portfolios, and partly to regulate how the transfer of remuneration should take place.
Distribution of funds
Based on the statistical surveys, Kopinor calculates the amount deriving from copies from each country. The remuneration is paid out in accordance with bilateral agreements (or retained, in case of Type B-agreements).
Remuneration to rightsholders in countries with no bilateral agreements is kept in separate accounts for 3 years after the year of collection. After 3 years it is transferred to Kopinor’s Development Fund (2/3) and domestic distribution (1/3).
