Towards digital licensing

Kopinor is actively working towards digital licensing for the entire educational sector in Norway. The work is being carried out in cooperation with the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS), who represents primary and secondary schools, and the Norwegian Council for Higher Education, who represents universities and colleges. The process may lead to digital licensing already in 2008.

Norcode established: NOK 15 million for copyright development activities

The Norwegian Copyright Development Association (Norcode) was established 26 October by five collective management organisations: BONO, Gramo, Kopinor, Norwaco and TONO.

School license: No price reductions – same price for Internet printouts

The long-lasting conflict over copying in schools and municipal adminstration in Norway has come to an end. 11 April, The Norwegian Remuneration Tribunal published their decision about Internet printouts, while Kopinor and The Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS) reached an agreement about the remaining issues in January.

Kopinor, the Reproduction Rights Organisation of Norway, represents copyright holders of published works through 22 member organisations - 5 publishers' associations and 17 authors' associations.

By law or through bilateral agreements with Reproduction Rights Organisations in other countries, Kopinor also represents foreign rightsholders. Today, Kopinor collects for approximately 80 % of the copyright protected material photocopied in Norway.

Kopinor is empowered by its member organisations to negotiate and conclude collective agreements on photocopying and similar uses of copyright protected works in all areas of society. A new and important goal is to negotiate agreements on digital reproduction of Norwegian works in libraries, in educational institutions and in public and private enterprises.

In 2007, Kopinor distributed NOK 141 million to Norwegian rightsholders and 30 million to foreign rightsholders. Since 1980 Kopinor has collected more than NOK 3 billion in reprographic fees.
